Social Media Link Strategy: How to Get More Clicks

Posting a link on social media feels simple, but each platform handles links differently, and small choices make a big difference to how many people click. This is a practical, platform-by-platform strategy for turning followers into clicks — and knowing which posts actually drove them.

The two tools you'll use

  • Short links — clean, trackable URLs for posts, captions and stories.
  • A link-in-bio page — one URL for platforms that only allow a profile link.

Most strong strategies use both. (See short links vs QR codes for the offline counterpart.)

Instagram

Feed captions aren't clickable, so your profile link does the heavy lifting — use a link-in-bio page and update its top link with every post. Stories (and links there) are clickable, so drop trackable short links in stories with a clear "tap here."

TikTok

Similar to Instagram: a single bio link on eligible accounts. Point it at your bio page and call it out in videos and captions. Details: how to add a link to your TikTok bio.

X (Twitter)

Links are clickable in posts. Use a short, branded link with a strong hook, and keep the link near the start. Track which tweets drive clicks so you can repeat what works.

LinkedIn & Facebook

Links work in posts, but some platforms reduce reach on posts with outbound links — a common tactic is to put the link in the first comment. Test both. Always tag links with campaigns so you can compare.

Use UTMs to compare channels

If you share the same destination on five platforms, tag each link with UTM parameters (source = instagram, tiktok, etc.). Then your analytics show exactly which platform drove clicks and conversions. Build them with the UTM builder.

Getting more clicks: the fundamentals

  • Give a reason to click — tell people what's on the other side.
  • Front-load the link where platforms allow it.
  • Use branded, readable links — they get more clicks than random ones.
  • One clear CTA per post.
  • Post when your audience is active — check your analytics for timing.

Measure, then double down

The whole point is the feedback loop: see which platform and which post drove clicks, then make more of what works. lynkily's analytics show clicks by source, device and location in real time. It's all one platform — short links, a bio page, QR codes and analytics — free to start.
